Another new feature here on TheRunUp: the Euro File. It’s a quick review of some midweek racing as well as a preview of whats on tap for the upcoming weekend. Enjoy!

The Superprestige is in Full Swing

World Champion Niels Albert won the third round of the Superprestige series in Gavere, Belgium on Sunday. Albert extended his lead in the series by two points over Sven Nys, who missed out on a chance of a 50th career win in the Superprestige series after puncturing early during the penultimate lap. Zdenek Stybar won the sprint for third place ahead of Kevin Pauwels. Stybar is still in contention as he is only four points back. However, everyone else is much further back after the first three rounds.

This weekend, the Superprestige series heads to Hamme-Zogge, where Sven Nys won last year in “Apocalyptic conditions.” A steady stream of snow increased as the race began and accumulated to the point where riders couldn’t recognize each other and visibility was nearly zero.Klass Vantornout and Bart Wellens were the main protagonists last year, while Albert was out with a spleen injury. This year’s course promises to be similar to last years, with hopefully better weather. In the end, SvenNys is the heavy favorite as he goes for his 50th career win in the Superprestige series and attempts to take control of the series.

Nys and Albert Battle for Control of the GvA Trophy Series

The GvA Trophy heads to Hasselt for its third round of action this weekend. Last year’s race was won by Bart Wellens who managed to ride away from Kevin Pauwels in a very tactical race. Sven Nys ended up a disappointing fifth. This year promises to be a vastly different affair as Niels Albert will be ready to race along withNys and Zdenk Stybar. Nys and Albert currently share the lead with 50 points a piece and should either rider win, it will put the rest of the field out of the running for the overall.

Bina Wins Round Seven of the TOI TOI Cup

Martin Bina picked up another win in the TOI TOI Cup, solidifying his lead over Petr Dlask. The series, held in the Czech Republic, had another mid-week race on Tuesday in Holé Vrchy. Bina decimated the competition besting Jaroslav Kulhavý by over a minute. Dlask was able to hang on for fourth place, two and a half minutes behind. The TOI TOI Cup heads to Mnichovo Hradiště this weekend for Round 8.
