Here they are, the 2009 US Cross Nationals Results based on my predictions. It was an okay year, I took some big hits with the Masters races and the juniors were sporadic at best. Enjoy, there’s plenty more Nationals and European stuff to come.
Masters Men
30-34: Molly Cameron (-6) – Grant Berry picked up the win against a star-studded field, Cameron was seventh.
35-39: Brandon Dwight (-3) – Jonathan Baker came out on top, in a race where the top four were separated by less then twenty seconds. Dwight finished fourth.
40-44: Richard Feldman (-13) – Peter Webber was the best racer on a day in which a majority of the favorites failed to podium, Feldman was 14th.
45-49: James Coats (-1) – Jonathan Bold picked up the victory, while Coats finished second, two seconds back.
50-54: Henry Kramer (0) DNS – Congrats to Kevin Hines.
55-59: Gary Thacker (-1) – Finished second, while the infamous Paul Curley won.
60-64: Phil Bannister (-1) – Dan Norton got the better of Bannister this year.
65-69: Rob Lea (-2) – Finished third, James Wagner won.
70+ – Last year there was a 70-74 Champ and a 75-79. Based on that:
70-74: Ronald Riley – Doesn’t count. Due to an error in my calculations, Riley’s racing age puts him in the 75-79 age group. Congrats to Joe Saling.
75-79: Walt Axthelm (+5) – Axthelm picked up the win ahead of Riley.
Junior Women
10-12: Mina Anderburg (+5)
13-14: Andrea Casebolt (-4) – Tiziana DeHorney won by one second, Casebolt finished fifth.
15-16: Alexis Ryan (-1) – Sarah Huang put half a minute into Ryan when all was said and done.
17-18: Coryn Rivera (+5)
Junior Men
10-12: James Francisco (-5) – Congrats go to Gage Hecht for picking up the win, Francisco finished 6th.
13-14: Ian Mcshane (-7) – Mcshane finished eighth while another Ian, Ian Haupt, picked up the win.
15-16: Sam Okeefe (-4) – Okeefe finished fifth in a very hard fought race, Logan Owen picked up the “W”.
17-18: Cody Kaiser (+5)
Single Speed: James Lalonde (0) DNS – Congrats to JT Fountain, that just sounds like a SS name.
Masters Women
30-34: Deidre Winfield (-1) – Winfield battled hard for second, but the race was dominated by Barbara Howe.
35-39: Meredith Miller (0) DNS – Kerry Barnholt was your winner.
40-44: Wendy Williams (-1) – Gina Hall was the winner, with Williams a distant second.
45-49: Kris Walker (+5)
50-54: Linda Elgart (-11) – Marilyn Ruseckas decimated the field while Elgart finished 12th.
55-59: Diane Ostenso (+5)
60+ – Last year there was a 60-64 Champ and a 65+. Based on that:
60-64: Martha Iverson (+5)
65-69: Julie Lockhart (+5)
U23 Men: Daniel Summerhill (+5)
U23 Women: Arielle Filiberti (?) – She didn’t win, but nobody seemed to pick out the U23 podium. So I’ll just do a -2 and call it safe.
Collegiate Men: Zach McDonald (+5) Congrats to an old friend (Ryan Leech) for winning the D2 race. I didn’t pick the D2 winners, just the collegiate overall.
Collegiate Women: Carla Swart (0) DNS – Teal Stetson-Lee won from Fort Lewis College, imagine that, a Fort Lewis rider won.
Elite Women: Katie Compton (+5)
Elite Men: Jonathan Page (-2) Page ended up third, while Tim Johnson picked up the win. Subconsciously I think I knew that (check out the Day 4 image I used).
Total Points: -10 (+55/-65) Ouch, only had four riders finish outside the top-five and only two of those finished outside the top-ten.
Overall Record: 11-28 (didn’t include DNS races) for a total percentage of 0.393, not to shabby.
Hopefully I’ll do better next year.
