Katie Compton shot out of the starting grid like a rocket this season destroying the competition on both sides of the Atlantic. Her season seemed to sizzle a little bit in December, but Compton quickly bounced back capturing her sixth straight National Championship. Recently, Compton has been sidelined by persistent leg cramps. In her absence, perennial favorites MarianneVos, Daphny Van den Brand and Hanka Kupfernagle have stormed onto the scene. If Compton can bounce back she could be the next World Champion, but as things stand now, all eyes will be onVos to pick up another title.
- Marianne Vos (Netherlands) – The reigning World Champion and UCI points leader, Vos appears destine for another world title. She is perhaps, the best all-around cyclist in the world, consistently dominating on the road and track as well ascyclocross. And, after last weeks World Cup win, she’s the odds on favorite to wear the rainbow jersey.
- Daphny Van den Brand (Netherlands) – Van den Brand is one of the few women who has beaten Vos this year. Her third place last weekend in Hoogerheide locked up the World Cup overall for the Dutch rider. While she’s expected to podium on Sunday, she could easily end up on the top step.
- Katie Compton (USA) – With two rounds of the World Cup remaining, Katie Compton appeared destine to be the first American to win a World Cup overall and a real candidate for a world title. However, since then, her season has collapsed due to leg cramps. She’s on the start list for Sunday and will most likely give it a shot. What kind of form she will have is unknown at this point, which could be a big asset for the American.
- Hanka Kupfernagel (Germany) – The four-time world champion is heading to Tabor with one goal in mind: to win. Kupfernagel is a crowd favorite no matter where she races, and has proven that a late start to the season hasn’t hindered her form at all.
- Katerina Nash (Czech Republic) – Nash could be the most forgotten potential world champ in the field. In addition to being the Czech National Champion, Nash dominated the US cross scene this year. She backed that up with a World Cup win inRoubaix. Nash will have the hometown crowd on her side, and could surprise everyone by picking up the victory.
Other riders to watch: Amy Dombroski (USA), Sanne Cant (Belgium), Helen Wyman (Great Britain) and Christel Ferrier-Bruneau (France).
