2010 Worlds Preview: Predictions

With less then 24-hours remaining, it’s about time that we make our 2010 World Cyclocross Championship predictions. It has been a great season thus far, and this weekend could see the best racing in years. There are plenty of favorites, along with a great mix of new comers. Plus, there’s a bevy of riders who have multiple titles to their credit and are looking for more. In the Elite men’s race it appears that a Belgian is destine to win, same goes for the Under 23 Men. In the Juniors and Elite women’s races, the Netherlands seem to have top billing. Could the US pick up a pair of medals? Or, even a Rainbow Jersey? Only time will tell as the riders hit the frozen tundra of Tabor. Without further delay, here’s this years predictions:

Junior Men

  1. David van der Pol (Netherlands)
  2. Gert-Jan Bosman (Netherlands)
  3. Vojtech Nipl (Czech Republic)

Under 23 Men

  1. Tom Meeusen (Belgium)
  2. Kacper Szczepaniak (Poland)
  3. Jim Aernouts (Belgium)

Elite Women

  1. Marianne Vos (Netherlands)
  2. Katerina Nash (Czech Republic)
  3. Daphny Van den Brand (Netherlands)

Elite Men

  1. Sven Nys (Belgium)
  2. Zdenk Stybar (Czech Republic)
  3. Erwin Vervecken (Belgium)

Because we’re an American based site, here’s our prediction for the top Americans in each race:

  • Junior Men: Cody Kaiser
  • U23 Men: Danny Summerhill
  • Elite Women: Amy Dombroski*
  • Elite Men: Jonathan Page

* unless Katie Compton starts
